May be effective against1 eczema (atopic dermatitis). Feeding infants a specific formula (with or without breast milk) containing a casein peptide (Nutramigen or Progestimil) for 4-6 months reduces the chance of developing eczema. This effect seems to last until at least 6 years of age.

2 Susceptiility to allergies and allergic reactions (atopic diseases). Some studies have shown that feeding infants specific formulas containing casein peptides (Nutramigen) instead of cow's milk reduces the risk of allergies in infants whose parents have atopic diseases. This benefit appears to last until at least 6 years of age.

It may be effective in the following areas:

① Skin aging. Some studies have shown that taking casein peptides may improve age-related changes in skin color.

② Excessive crying (colic) in infants. Some studies have shown that feeding a specific formula containing casein peptides (Alimentum or Nutramigen) to colicky infants for 7 days can reduce the frequency and extent of crying. For infants on cow's milk formula with colic, switching to a casein peptide formula (Nutramigen) may reduce crying and colic in the first few days.

③ Diabetes. Some studies in adults with type 2 diabetes have shown that casein peptide consumption can improve postprandial insulin and glucose levels. However, it is unclear whether long-term casein peptide consumption improves blood sugar control.

④ Food allergies. Specific formulas containing casein peptides are safe and do not cause allergic reactions in children with milk allergies. These formulas include Alimentum, Damira 2000, Frisolac Allergycare and Nutramigen.

⑤ High blood pressure. Taking certain casein peptides (sometimes called lactotripeptides) appears to lower blood pressure in people with high blood pressure.

⑥ High levels of a chemical called bilirubin in the blood of newborns (neonatal jaundice). Some studies have shown that feeding infants formula containing casein peptides (Nutramigen) instead of formula containing whey proteins (Enfamil) or breastfeeding reduces the chance of developing jaundice.

Applications

Casein hydrolyzed peptide contains all the essential amino acids in the same proportion as casein, and its main components are dipeptide and tripeptide, which makes it directly absorbable without digestion. Due to its good taste, high solubility, transparent solution, stability under acidic conditions, easy to prepare ready-to-drink beverages, this new functional ingredient has a wide range of application prospects.
